On August 16, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II presided over the Holy Qurobo (Divine Liturgy) which was celebrated by His Eminence Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Office Director in St. Sergius and Bacchus Church in Sadad. A funeral service was given for the young martyrs Milad El-Sett, Adelahad Al-Sheikh and Imad Haroun. The Holy Qurobo was attended by His Eminence Mor Selwanos Boutros Al-Nehmeh, Archbishop of Homs, Hama and Environs along with priests, monks and deacons.

His Holiness spoke about the love of one’s country and explained the concept of sacrifice and self-giving in Christianity. He praised the army who faces life-threatening situations in defense of the country and the citizens. He then spoke of the role of the martyrs who die defending their faith and pour their lives so that life itself can go on despite the will of those who prefer death to life and darkness to light.
