His Holiness Visits Villages and Towns in the Region of Kurdistan
On August 23, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II visited St. Sergius and Bacchus Church in Akra along with the villages of Ashawa, Sarsank, Araden and Duhok in the region of Kurdistan. His Holiness was accompanied by their Eminences Mor Nicodemus Daoud Sharaf, Archbishop of Mosul and Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Office Director.

His Holiness thanked all those who are helping in the relief of the displaced people and providing them with shelter and assistance. He then listened to the worries and complaints of the displaced people.

His Holiness spoke of the great sorrow that we are all feeling due to this tragic situation that the Christians are living in. He assured them that he will do all that is in his power to get them back to their houses and lands. He emphasized that he is contacting all governments and churches – east and west – to provide them with the humanitarian help and assistance. He also stressed the importance of international protection and, for the future, the ability to have self-defense in collaboration with others.
